- Geneanet
Although a small, multi-language based site that was historically used mostly in France and nearby regions. They have exploded in visibility in 2020 due to adding a GEDMatch-like autosomal upload and match service. With the purchase of GEDMatch by a forensic, criminal genetics company, many grew concerned with widespread use and access of its database (and similar ones) by various governments and law enforcement agencies. Geneanet, being EU based, has the advantage of being behind much stricter privacy laws and is thus seen as a likely safer place to explore and operate.
Geneanet, beside operating Ancestry like services for individual trees and global source libraries, also operates Geneastar, Geneaweb and has a phone app GeneaGrave.
