In late Summer 2021, YSEQ announced a new WGS400 product that would be providing 400 base-pair read length (single-end) sequencing. Much interest and anticipation was generated as this was the first step toward a longer read length available; especially for the yDNA analysis community that looks to extract STR values from the WGS tests. Putting the sequencer in single-end mode, there is no concern over the insert size and its effect on matching paired-end reads in CNV areas where STRs may exist.
After 6 months of testing and working in-house to ramp up this sequencing, YSEQ has decided to offer a paired-end result using the same equipment. And importantly, offering a 30x WGS version they call WGS+. (Their WGS400 was only being delivered with a 15x read depth.)

We are glad to report on the first results coming out of the YSEQ lab of their new WGS tests based on a new MGI DNB-GS400RS sequencer they have purchased. Included here are a WGS400 single-end (15x by design) and WGS+ (30x) tests. These are simply example and not minimum, maximum or average values. They do represent a hope at expected values though.
