Family Branch page for the Abner Wood genealogical and DNA verified line. You can find them as Group 15 in the FTDNA Wood Surname Project as well. We are awaiting one other Wood match to join the project to push the MRCA up to Abner Wood. Otherwise, all the matching yDNA testers are from different sons of Abner Woods son Archibald Joshua Wood. So, in reality today, by DNA confirmation, the EKA is Archibald. A good place for information about EKA Archibald is the Find-A-Grave entry for Archibald Joshua Wood. There you can see the four sons that testers descend from.

At this time, we assume this Wood line is an NPE out of the Charles Hoare line. Simply because the MRCA for EKA Charles Hoare is father back than for Abner Wood. It is also interesting to note that a different grandson of Leonard Hoar (a Nathan Hoar Jr) supposedly had a son Milton Hoar. Milton has a court record of having his familys' surname changed to Woodville. Milton and all of Nathan's children are born around the same time as Abner Wood.

It should be noted that the vast majority of Ancestry trees have this Abner Wood as marrying an Ann Dale and dying in England. This has yet to be disambiguated with those here who say he moved to New York and married Betsy. Likely, Abner Wood was born in America due to the closeness in matching to the Charles Hoare line that had been in America for over 100 years by then.

DNA Analysis

This group is matching as close as a GD 3 (FTDNA style) on y111 STR markers to our Charles Hoare family branch. See the B00 Charles Hoare page for more information about the strong genetic match to this family line. The Abner Wood group has a unique STR value common to them — CDY=34.35 whereas all the other Charles Hoare line matches have CDY=35,35. They match y111 STRs most closely to the MRCA Joseph Hoar descendants (a 2x great grandson of Charles Hoare). But otherwise have no real distinguishing values.

Based on six matching, deep SNP testers, it appears the Wood line along with the two Hobart-surname testers are in the I-FT409631 haplogroup; one below I-A8592. This lower haplogroup is a single SNP in a homologous region. The Hobart line testers are down from Deacon Joseph b.1707, son of great grandson Leonard. Possibly both from Josephs son Samuel b.1746. Samuel could be a possible father to Abner Wood base on the age at the time of Abner's birth. See the B36 Samuel Hobart page for more information.

STR markers predict I1-L338 which is an ancestor to the deep SNP testing haplogroup of I-A8592 and then I-FT409631.
